Default Exhaust installation question

From top to bottom:

-Exhaust manifold
-Gasket
-Heat riser (or in my case just the spacers) with flat surface up
-Donut
-Sleeve
-Exhaust (side) with flange

Seems like this do not fit together...

Is it EITHER Heat riser spacer OR donut+sleeve?

If so, how does the heat riser seal against the exhaust?

I should add that I have two heat riser spacers that were on both sides when taking old system off, but I do not recall removing any donuts or sleeves...

Hi J,
The heat riser was on the right side originally. No riser or spacer on the left side. Just the donut and sleeve.
Originally the heat riser butted against the manifold with no gasket, then the sleeve slipped into the heat riser, then the donut slid on the sleeve, and then the flange on the pipe started on the studs. The large diameter end of the sleeve goes into the heat riser (right side) and manifold (left side).
Hope this helps!
Regards,
Alan

Thanks but it still doesn'tmake sence with the spacer...
On the driver side the manifold is slightly tapered in the bottom so the sleeve will go in there.
But the spacer is the same diameter in the bottom as the big end of the sleeve. Cant see how they can sit against each other?
In the picture to the left they are like that, but I cant see how they will stay centered if the whole thing is tightened?

Turn the sleeve around. It goes into the pipe just to centre the donut. Rt side only.

Are you saying that I should have the small end up into the spacer??

The picture is not very good, but the spacer is standing on the big end of the sleeve.

No, the small diameter end goes in the pipe. The large diameter should protrude out of the pipe less than the thickness of the donut so that it does not interfere with tightening the donut against the spacer. It is just there to hold the donut to the pipe in the centred position for assembly.

It looked in the pic like you were trying to instal the sleeve into the spacer.

Ok.

Problem is that the donut does not sit well against the spacer. See pic. Is this normal?
My understanding is that the original heat riser is tapered in the bottom?

Don't know why I didn't notice it before, but you have two different system types. That spacer/heat riser eliminator is intended to be used without a donut or gasket of any type. The pipe sits right up against the bevel on the spacer. The donut and sleeve is for use with heatrisers that have a bevel cut into them.
