about to pull my muncie, and rebuild it myself. its a bit tough to shift now and then, and jumps out of 4th when coasting.
cars a 73BB, w a 396 engine(ls3 from a 71 chevelle), build specs unknown. im planning a stroker BB build at some point in the future. strictly a street car, but i like to get on it now and then.
ive got the DVD and book from 5speeds, but im curious...
any reason not to go w torque link sliders? i dont see them offered at 5speeds
these guys offer torque link sliders and a heavy duty USA made front bearing kit. should i consider this? the links to their 'master' kit, dunno if ill need all that stuff till i get it out, but this isnt something i want to do again any time soon.

When last up and running, mine was jumping out of 4th when coasting as well, so I've got some of the same work ahead that you're looking at. While I'm certainly no expert here, the torque lock sliders seem to make good sense to me, and I'd be surprised if 5speeds doesn't have them on hand. If Gear Rhonda doesn't know about something you want for a Muncie, I'd sure give Paul a call. FWIW, I'd probably go ahead and do the HD midplate while it's apart if you tend beat on your tranny very often. Post up...
I've run torque lock sliders for years on my street Vettes, shifting effort is same to me from std ones. Make sure and check the thrust washers on the cluster gear and bend the tabs to 90 degrees. I guess the video must cover the rebuild procedure, just know the countershaft goes out the rear of the case and it is easiest to use a "dummy" shaft when reinserting it back into the main case (yes you can get by with loading the needle bearings inside the cluster with lots of grease but, a dummy shaft makes life a lot easier.) You might want to check out Auto Gear transmission site for other Muncie parts.
Good advice there. I'm in the middle of rebuilding my tranny right now. I did get the sliders as everyone I spoke to said it was the 'right' thing to do. Get the kit as it will have all the 'little' things you will want to replace while you are in there. Don't forget to have a close look at your reverse idler gears. Especially the rear one. Of the two that will be the one that has a problem.
Watch the video a few times and it will give you the info you need as to what parts you may want to order. It has a section on what parts to look at for wear.
Have fun with the rebuild. Should be putting mine back together this week. Feel free to PM me if you need help.
shmoky where did u get your kit & sliders? u run into any unexpected surprises? im waiting till i have mine out and can look it over before ordering anything.
if mine shows any wear ill be gettin the HD midplate...ill post some pix as i look it over, possibly today

Learje,
I'm in Canada so got my parts from a Canadian distributor that was reasonably comparable in price and didn't have to wait for shipping or pay the duty.
This is the company recommended by others. http://www.fourgeartrans.com/ Also Paul at 5speeds (do a search) is a great help. Who did you get the video from? They should have all the parts and/or kit you may need.
