Default Sidepipe routing question...

I currently have full length headers attached to a 454. I am curious as to the rest of the sidepipe puzzle. I have seen pics of side exhaust that appear to have individual tubes that run to the side of the car directly behind the front tires and then attach to the big 4" tubes.
My question(s) is, if I am considering a side exhaust, will my current headers work? And if so, what will I need to finish the system? I think the 4" chrome pipes are waaaay too cool but I wish to maintain some sense of financial feasibility...if there is such a thing on a Vette.
Thanks in advance!!

They've got these cheesy fake hookers (there are at least two sets of them on ebay right now) that look like they have the four tubes going to a collecter, but in fact only one of the tubes is functional & hooks up to your stock manifold. You can get sidepipes that look like the stock '69 pipes (one big pipe with covers) that will bolt right up to stock manifolds (you might look at the jegs website), but for your full length headers, I think you're SOL.

But if you want the real 4-pipe headers going into 4" pipes, you pretty much gotta go Hooker, and that, my friend, is EXPENSIVE. Something like $600+ for black and up to $1200 for chrome for the whole setup.

I put together (welded) these 90 pipes and collectors and bolted them to my hugger headers. To drop my sidepipes everything has to come down.
Headers ceramic--------------- ebay $75.00
sidepipes ------Forum member------ $110.00
collectors & pipe ----Auto Zone------$24.00

Look & Sound------------------------$Priceless$

Here's what I'm considering, FWIW - I have the factory side pipe covers, but want to install a more free-flowing exhaust than what the side pipe mufflers offer. I'm looking at removing the side mufflers and inserting a set of the JCL baffles instead. I still have the full-length side covers, but the pipes and mufflers themselves will be set back further than the covers show. All is hidden underneath, and I shouldn't have any trouble using full-length headers. Some fab work to do to connect them, but shouldn't be much problem at all.
