Default 82 dash pad installation trick

I am preparing to install a dash pad from Ecklers and have cooridinated the project with the removal and installation of a new windshield. Has anyone had experience with this procedure? Is it a lot easier going through the windshield when it comes to re-connecting the electrical wiring, speedometer cable, etc.? Any tips would be appreciated as I am going to attempt this by mid-week. Thank you in advance for any information that may save me time and aggravation.

From what I know there is little if any advantage to working through the windshield opening. Most of the connections are done from underneath and since the whole dash assembly would limit access from the top I would say that the windshield access is no benefit. I am preparing to do this myself on my '80 so I have been investigating the topic to find any shortcuts or helpful tips.

One trick is to leave it out under the sun for a couple of hours, this helps the material to get a little soft and You can bend the two tabs on either end of the dash pad.
Hope this helps a bit.

My thought was that you could place the pad at tilted back at an angle (resting on the steering column) and reach through the windshield opening to connect the electrical connections. Just a thought.

I don't know if this will work or not but I would say it is worth a try. I have spent a lot of money on Tylenol due to the hours of standing on my head to work under the dash. If you can't access through the windshield opening I would consider taking out the seat(s) and pop the steering wheel off to give you more room to work from underneath.

FWIW: install your dash, then install the windshield. Having the windshield out during the dash installation has its advantages. You have a little extra room to reach and maneuver.
