Default Car Wont start

Well, yesterday the car was difficult to start (Took about 20 minutes) when I got it home it started no problem (2 weeks ago). Anyway, I assumed a dead battery (didnt have enough juice to turn the starter over, before the solenoid started clicking).. anyway.. I checked my connections (tightened them) and still nothing. I dont think its a problem with the battery.. I ended up removing the connectors from the battery and hooking them right up to the jumper cables (the battery in the other car (79thunderbird) is new and stronger than the one in the vette) still wouldnt kick it over. It will spin it around, but it never gets it going well.. and most of the time only gets in half a turn before it gets it going. Also where is the solenoid?

Solinoid is on the starter (bad design--I bypassed my solinoid and put in a Ford solinoid far away from those hot exhaust manifolds). Could still be the battery--jumper cables often won't carry enough juice to start a car without at least some kick from the car's own battery (at least that's been my experience). Very first thing I would do is take the battery to an Autozone or Pep Boys and have them test it (they do it for free). Then you know for certain whether that's your problem.
