The g-tech seems to be very accurate to me. I ran it once at the track and compared it to my time slip. It was only a hundreth of a second off, and 1 mph off i think....regardless it was very close. I think the main problem is the conditions of the road that make it unaccurate compared to the drag strip
See my sig. I'm proud of it since it's a stock L48...just has the sidepipes instead of single exhaust through cat. It's only got 40K miles so it could be the original cam, but the valve covers have been changed and it looks like someone spray painted the engine while it was sitting in the car (could have been the dealership that handled the deal between the previous owner and original owner, but there's also evidence of line locks at one time so it could have been the original owner cause he also converted from automatic to manual).
I haven't tried the G-tech...there's a track close by so I just go there to play.
However - as soon as I get my 465+ HP engine and my TKO installed - I should be able to post some nice ET's.... It's very likely that I will run 12's on street tires. On drag radials it should be possible to run high 11's... I still didn't decide if I want to run on drag radials. I worry about my rear end...
I just added Drag Radials, 4.11s and electric fans.
I keep puttiing off going to the track, but I really plan on going Wednesday. Hoping for 12.2 or 3s. I think I will get 11.99 with this combo with tuning. I'm hoping to build a big cube small block soon to pursue the 10's.
Well, just for fun I'm going to mention my dad's best time in his '64 Corvette. This was in '87 I believe and his time was 11.57. Full drag car. Before the '88 season he put 14inch slicks on to replace the 11.5inch, a 5 speed Doug Nash tranny with a Mr. Gasket inline shifter. The car weighs 2,600lbs with him in it. This is after all the added shot is removed to get the car to factory weight. The motor is a 302 that puts out ~550 NA hp. The rear end currently is a Ford 9in nodular with 5.87s in it. He has a set of 6.50s to put in. With that, I'm very confident he can get the car into the 10s. Now if got back into the game and redid that car again with current drag technology he could get it into the 9's, but we are going to make it streetable instead (oh yeah...). He quit racing though in order to provide for his family. I guess that is noble enough. Probably the only reason to give up the 3 foot wheel stands off the line :)
It is nice to see a lot of 12 second Corvettes without too much work, keep it up guys.
I have a 79 L82 that I bought with under 2 miles on it. It's side to side G's and braking is where it counts. Straight line your never going to be fast. Vette's are a heavy pig. Go for the road machine. Then fully roll cage it so it's safe. Make it so fast in turns or braking that your butt has to pucker. Because your car is faster than you.
I belong to the car's with bars club!
I guess i should add. To do sub 11'sh runs in a vette will cost you. I go to the all Vette drags every year. Without slicks and a lighter car your not going to be mid 11's without 500+ hp and bigger ci.
Contrary to everyone's beleif I think I might have run in the high 12's on street tires. I've raced and kept up to known 12 second cars on the street but on a track all I could muster up in a medium altitude hot day was an 8.90 in the 1/8 mile, so that's about 14 seconds of my life i'll never get back. My times slips didn't show 60ft times but i'm sure they were close to 2.5 seconds. I ran 1/10 slower than a pre production Z06 that same day so it's obvious that nobody was having a good day. And them Z06's are fast cars in capable hands! That engine combo is now history so i'll never really know what it was capable of with all variables in my favor.
