Transmission is occasionally hard to shift, especially when cold. Going to jack it up tonight and change the oil. It also occasionally jumps out of second gear when decelerating. An aftermarket Hurst was taken out, and an OEM installed recentlyl, assuming it is just needs the shift rods adjusted, or should I be looking for something else.
Doing a simple adjustment would certainly be preferable to pulling the trans and tearing it apart...just out of curiosity, why did you replace the Hurst shifter with the OE part? Hurst linkage is much more direct...was it for originality's sake? You might be able to cure the jumping-out-of-gear problem with an adjustment but it's generally a symptom of a larger problem, i.e., worn internal rollers and/or bearings.
Jman thanks for the thought, I saw your thread. I've got plenty of clearance. Shifter itself was very dirty. Cleaned it well with WD and coated with spray on White Lithium. Shifter seems much smoother now. Also found the 1-2 shift arm was loose on it's shaft, that may have been part of the problem. Rebuilding the steering box/tie rods. Be a couple weeks before I can see if I made any real difference.
I will be checking mine as well, I am having a hard time getting mine into reverse after I park. Really making me mad. I will check the underside. How do you adjust the linkages?
The dimensions for the tool are supposed to be in the build manual, may also be available on line, didn't see them in a quick google. Most online parts stores also sell them.
