I replaced my 1972 windshield wiper motor and now the wiper cowling always stays in the open position. I have checked and run all of the vacuum lines and each is in it's proper place. All the elctrical wires are hooked up as they were previously so I am completely at a loss as to why the door will not close because it had previously.....ANY help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hi D,
Can you see if the wiper door safety switch (black plastic, plunger on end, 3 hoses) is being depressed by the passenger side wiper arm linkage when the wipers park? This has to happen for the wiper door actuator to receive the vacuum signal to close.
Did you unhook any of the hoses when you changed the wiper motor?
Regards,
Alan
Yes I removed the hoses and marked them so I could (hopefully) put them back in the right place....I will check on your advice and if I may the vacuum system on the Corvette was one poor design.....what a shame for a great car.....thank you though.
Hi D,
That's the reason I asked.... to change the wiper motor, none of the hoses should have needed to be disconnected.
Does the door close by using the over-ride vacuum switch under the steering column? Pull down... open, push back up... close.
Do you have the 72 AIM? That will show you the hose routing and help you understand the 'logic' (?), behind the system's operation.
Regards,
Alan
