I put the Mog-5758 springs in today and they raised my front end a couple of inches
I am so disappointed.
First I pulled the springs and cut a coil off of them, I should of cut two coils.
Then I purchase these springs and they are higher than ever.
The ride is great, there is just to much space between the tire and the bottom of the wheel well.
Should I cut another coil off the old springs or what?
Ralph,
It sure looks like your springs are not correctly seated in the pocket in the frame. BTDT! Cut one coil off stock springs, and when we put it on the ground the car looked like yours does in the photos. We cut a second coil off and it was still too high, so we used a crowbar to get the springs correctly seated and car was on the ground.
Ended up with the 460 pound/in springs with about ½ a coil cut to get the car at the proper ride height. Reason for having to take the ½ coil out was I have aluminum heads, intake, & water pump, plus long tube headers in place of cast iron exhaust manifolds, resulting in about 100 pounds off the front end. Here is how it sits:
I have determined the springs are not seated correctly in the top.
You can tell because:
They are not centered on the shock.
They squeak going down the road.
And the ride height.
The ride is a lot better than the old springs already.
Once in their proper place it should be all good.
So by the end of the week I'll have the front springs problem corrected plus I'll have a new leaf spring installed.
The 2 moog springs are rated the same 474 rating, but one is 1400pds and the other is 1500pds. Would the 1400 set the car lowwer since the rate is the same?

If you check the MOOG specs, one of the factors is the standing height. Check the two standing heights of the springs.
I'm doing my 82 now. I have one side done, I hope to have the other side with all new bushing done by Tuesday . Il post pics because I thought the same thing "why is this spring so much shorter?" getting the spring into the upper pocket was a PITA but I can see how easy it would be to screw up.
I got a gymkhana set from Eklers, front coils and 7 leaf rear with the full kit install parts set. Turned out saweet on my 75. Butt up and a tad nose down, a classic rake for the c3s. Spent about 350 in parts. As long as the halfshafts sitlevel when on the ground the geometry is good to go.
A gymkhana 78 would have 550s stock. Someone put the 460# spring in my 78 when the front suspension was rebuilt back in the early 90s.
I am not the original owner but the car was 100% bone stock when I bought it in 1983 with 25,000 miles on it.
The base front spring is 295 lbs/in and there is no mention of the F-41/gymkhana spring rate in the gm heritage center archives but I am fairly certain that Sport suspended cars did NOT come from the factory with 550 front springs, just like the rear replacement sport/F-41 spring is 360 lbs, no where near the OEM steel spring rate of around 290/300 lbs.
