If you still have the original cat installed you don't need mufflers. The cat acts like a muffler:

I started mine up with the factory catback removed, and it sounds good; not too loud at all.

I'm going to order the corvette central system today.

Old school kind of guy here. True duals with turbo mufflers. Good sound and my wife can still hear me talking inside. My 355 has enough cam and compression that it sounds good through my exhaust system. With a stock 350 it would probably be too quiet for most folks, including me.

I got a complete 2.5" exhaust kit from Bairs with stock styl mufflers. i am very happy with it. Not too loud or rappy like the magnaflow mufflers that were on the car.

Car came with Dynomax Super Turbos. I ran over a block of wood and mashed the y-pipe and found a great price on the cat-back system with new mufflers for not much more than just the y-pipe (that was 1998). Few exhaust changes since then and I'm still running the same set of Super Turbos. No rust-out on the aluminized mufflers and they've been through 5 years of Ohio weather (2005-2009) to boot.

Good price and quality. PN# 17482 from Dynomax includes both mufflers, chrome tips, elbows and clamps to attach to your y-pipe. $206.95 from Summit:

If you are interested in just mufflers (not a whole custom exhaust system) that are close to original sound, just a little louder", then I highly recommend Magnaflows. I had chambered mufflers like Flowmasters and Flowmasters on a S10 V8 conversion truck. They are too loud to carry on a conversation with a normal voice and they had a drone on the highway that took some of the fun out of long road trips.

Here are what Magnaflows sound like on my '80:
