Default Ended up buying a Ls1

I have been doing alot of research on lsx engines and have decided to make the move.. i just purchased a "Drop Out" Ls1 from Gus at Clevland pick apart.. (really nice guy) the ls1 and 4l60e are out of a 2001 Ws6 Trans am.. Gus told me that the ws6 came factory with the ls6 intake!! bonus.. The engine and trans both have 21K

engine should be here in about 2 weeks.. having it shipped to my work. (having a loading dock and fork truck makes the shipping cheaper) i can't wait..

I'm going to take my time, and do a really detailed engine swap thread. Stay tuned!~!!

Wow, that a pretty low mileage motor for one so old, good find. What did you pay for it , if you don't mind me asking, I plan on doing another one in my truck after my current one. Along with taking your time, try and gather all the parts you think you're going to need long be for you start the swap, this way you will have a shorter down time with the swap, and you won't suddenly get in a hurry when you see the weather is nice again for cruising.

I Look forward to seeing the build thread.

Well riggs.. I never dreamed i would have the chance to pick up such a low mileage combo.. It set me back 4750. for everything. Not that bad considering i paid 3500 or so on my big block AFR heads about a year ago. i will plan and purchase before the swap... got a list started. the 496 is going in the truck before i start the vette. the truck already has a 454 in it so im going to just pull it clean the engine compartment and blast and coat the brackets put it in and pull the trigger. as for the vette. i plan on a full cam, springs, and trunion upgrade along with push rods. im on the hunt for 400ish streetable power and a nice tq curve..

I bought mine back in Dec with the T56...starting to regret it some.

I know what I need to do but the details on how to seem to always be different and I can't seem to get a straight answer for much..

Plus I feel bad having so many questions not wanting to start a thread on each one...

maybe it's 2000's that had a 50/50 chance of the LS6 intake?
I thought it was 2001 but if other say it is they probably know more than me.

Mines a 2002 so i was sure about mine but checked it anyway.

PUNISHER VETTE, You sound like I did in the beginning of my swap. I had to search and search and then still ask questions. I would definitely post your questions and still search here and other LS related web sites like www.LS1.com , www.LS2.com, and http://www.pro-touring.com/forum.php and other sites.
From my experience with the LS swap into a C3, it seems that there has been several that have done it, but each one seems to be different from one another. I have tried to post as much as I can with details in my LS2 swap thread, I know Gordonm has also posted a lot of details in his, but still there will be information that you may have to find for yourself.

Again, don't be afraid to post questions, or even start a thread for each.
By the way, don't get discouraged, it gets better as you get closer to being done.

Yeah. I'm sure I'll figure it all out eventually. Mostly just don't want to get burnt out on it or so frustrated I give up.

But they do bring a lot of attention then a stock 350 motor did...even if it's just sitting there with nothing else.

Hope you get yours going quickly so you can come help finish mine!!

Congrats...

Before I started my LS2/T56 project I thought the engine/tranny would be be the bulk of $$$ spent and everything else would be minimal.

Several thousand later I now know otherwise.

Lots, LOTS of nickel and dime stuff you don't realize prior to diving in, and I'm doing the labor.

Just take you time, ask questions, and budget for "extras".

Default Ls3 questions to come

I am in the initial stages of figuring this out. Everything is there, maybe to much. How much of the harness did you dump? Fuel pump on the way, looking for a T56 Magnum hopefully, and finding a way to hammer in the dry sump. Is there a smaller aftermarket sump?

Fun ahead.

I hope I'm not hijacking the thread by asking a few general questions about LSX swaps in C3's, so if I may...

What are the main benefits of having an LSX in your C3 as opposed to a top of the line Gen 1 will all the goodies like fuel injection, top end kits, etc. Seems like you can get the power (and maybe the reliability?) with a properly built Gen 1 that would fit more easily into the car.

Of course there is weight savings with the aluminum block, but will that throw off the balance or the suspension height of the car?

I guess the bottom line question would be, is there a reason to do it besides the cool factor? I'm very intrigued by the concept but until it becomes more popular with clear cut procedures and installation kits I'm afraid its over my head.

Thanks

To keep the answer short, It's a motor capable of making more relieable horse power
then the GEN 1 motors, while getting excellent fuel economy.
For a lack of better words, making the car modern and more enjoyable to drive.

If you're planning on aftermarket changes to your original engine, like EFI kits, ext, may as well go LS like the op's doing. I had a 2001 LS1 C5 Vette that ran pretty good, and got good fuel milage. Can't say low end torque was like gen 1 SB's though. If doing an LS swap myself, probably have the LS1 worked on a bit, or go LS2 or 3.
