Default Replacing weatherstrips - need help!

Hi all,

Yesterday I started to replace old weatherstrips on my '68 convertible. I started with windshield pillars and everything went so smoothly, that I even began to think, that the whole process is too easy Then I got to the doors and got stuck with removal of the remains of old glue. I can't get them off and even if they come off, it goes with the paint. See the picture below. I soak them in advance with adhesive removal, but that does not help.

What if I just remove the big and most lose pieces of the old glue, clean the rest with some alcohol-based cleaner, and put a fresh layer of new glue on top? Then wait till it dries, and start gluing new weatherstrip on top? If the old glue holds so good, wouldn't it be a good base for the new stuff going on top?

Please advise. Many thanks

I don't see anything wrong with it.

That should work fine, I did that to my rear windshield weatherstrip in my 69. Holds great, however, keep in mind the glass pressing against it really keeps it air tight.

Good Luck,
Mike
