Hi All
I have a 1980. my cam is 1500-4000 278/288 duration .420/443 lift and bored .30over. stock heads and intake, stock tranny. my tq converter shaft is scored and the seal will not seal. what would be the best converter for this set up?? and what is the stock stall RPM converter??
Thanks
Larry
Consult the cam manufacturer and give them all of your specs. There are many variables and would be an expensive and time consuming mistake to make. Most cam manufacturers are pretty accurate with their recommendations.
Hope your not going to just plug in a new converter - if the shaft (neck of the converter) is scored, the pump bushing and pump are likely in bad shape. Sounds like the best plan is to rebuild the trans too.
For a mild cam like yours, the stock converter is best.

Oh my goodness now a guy can't just change out a converter without rebuilding the transmission???
Where will it all end?
i agree, put a converter in. call a couple companies that build converters and get one 500 to 1000 RPM HIGHER STALL SPEED YOU WILL NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE!
