Default Which way does Flywheel go on?

Dumb question, but which way does the Flywheel go on. (Yes I have a manual tran. Already removed flexplate off of new motor.)

The smooth side toward the engine or the indented side towards the engine?

Yes it seems to fit either way. I currently have it smooth side toward, but my Dad's got me second guessing. It'd be a bad day if we get it all together and then have to take it apart

Smooth side out. That is what the clutch disc rides on. This is an LS motor but it should look similar

Yeah, it's a dumb question, but it's what I like to call a good dumb question. Its the kind of question that's only dumb if you already know the answer. Years ago, I was helping a friend rebuild a Pontiac 400, and the pistons were all marked with what cylinder they were supposed to go into. He picked up the one marked "6", and said "How are you supposed to know if it's a 6 or a 9?". I said "Are you serious?". He said "Yeah!". I said "It's an 8 cylinder engine, Einstein!". He said "Wow, I'm an idiot!". Now that was a dumb question!
