Not sure but I would think there would be the possibility of blowing a seal. Go to harbor freight and but one of those hand operated suction pumps and stick the hose down the drip stick tube and suck it down to the proper level

if its like every other '80 Corvette, it's going to leak out eventually anyways.

The biggest problem is the fluid could become airated and loose its hydraulic abilities. Which could cause slipping and eventually burning out the clutches

Too much oil in an auto tranny can cause excessive heating and other 'not so good' things. Go to the auto parts store and buy an inexpensive fluid transfer pump. It's just a plastic, hand-operated pump with a suction line and an output line. Stick the suction line down the tranny oil fill tube and suck out what you need.

the aeration can cause the pump to go bad. the pump is designed to move fluid not air. hope it didn't cause any real issues for you.

Define "over filled." Over filled as in just a touch or over filled as in boucoup bunches?

A little over is better than way too much over.
