I was breaking in my new engine (that is what I keep telling my wife  ) in my shiny white 75 stingray w/tops off saturday when I went around a 15 mph corner I noticed a young boy about 10yrs. riding his bike between the road and a field, as I slowly accelerated his eyes locked on my vette to where he almost fell off his bike as I drove by, he stopped and stared, I looked back in my mirror and couldn't help from smiling from his expression! Then I thought 30 yrs. ago that was me! I remember falling in love w/ a corvette and wishing someday to be in the drivers seat. Now I own one, what are the chances of him owning one someday and passing another boy with That Look???
's funny, but on Sunday evening I took mine for it's maiden voyage after fitting a new cam etc, etc. Going around a corner I saw a new MGF coming towards me, being driven by a blonde babe. No problem..... but then she started grinning & waving & pointing at us with her right hand. This would have been OK except that her left hand had grabbed her BF/husbands/passengers shoulder & was shaking him to get him to look. So, no hands on the wheel, she crossed onto my side of the road making me swerve violently to miss her! Now, I've got no problem with blondes taking an interest in my Vette (I doubt she was pointing & waving at me  ), but when they try to impale themselves on the front it starts getting silly :D
Yea, I remember being that way when I was a wee bit.
I mean, I still gaze at every vette that goes through my eyesight, but when I was 8-10 or so, I LOVED corvettes! This was the 80's of course, and those C4's were dominating the street, but the C3's are what I always desired. I had so many Stingray models, but I NEVER had a C4 model. Anyways, Im older now and I have a Stingray. Its not the best one, but its still great!
When I had it out the first day I owned it, I pulled up beside a minivan and I looked over, and a small boy looked over at me (er, the car anyways), his windows were rolled up, but I could read his lips, they said, ("Wow! Is that a Corvette!"). His mother nodded her head, and the light turned green and I took off for him.
Hey - I am still that little boy. I stare too and I own one!!
I wanted one ever since my Dad showed me one when I was eight. Got my 1st one when I was 21 :smash: This is a 1974 photo

That Pic Rocks! My aunt gave me a ride in a shark when I was 5-6 yrs old. And I was hooked! Models, hotwheels, mags. My dad kept saying I'd grow out of it...but I'm 29 now and no site of it ending in my life time (2nd vette).
I love driving by kids. I was crusing home yesterday, a young fellow was with his mom at the pull. I drive by with the lovely melody of American V8 breathing through side pipes, the young boy grags his moms arm..starts tugging and pointing at the car. I live in a neighborhood with lots of youngsters and get it all the time. I also like to let them sit in the car when they stop by, and go ahead and recruit them early :D...I'd like to give a few a spin around the block...and that guarentees vette addiction for life...simply no cure

Man, that's a nice Vette you have! :smash:
Your right about the kids...I get more looks of awe and wonder from these youngster when I drive by...even the teenagers. More by far than the adults.
Yes...I get comments from adults too...but the kids are really the enjoyable ones...no substitute for the look in the eye...and I can relate very well as I was and still am mesmerized by a nice looking vette (or any cool car for that matter).
Thanks for the compliments...the car is getting there...I always loved the 69 BBlock look so that's what I'm cloning with my 72 (only I have a SB that I like a lot..but I'm starting to think it needs a Big Block under that BBlock hood :D ) .
YOUR CAR IS SWEET TOO, and YOUR WEBSITE ROCKS...very nice. I loved that cool picture of you starting out the vette life...very neat to have!
I gave a ride to a gen-X guy here at work, he just bought a 225 hp Audi
TT.
I did a little burnout and warmed the car up, then Let him drive, ( he let me drive the TT ) when we got back to work he was totally impressed, " nothing like a car with REAL power" he said :D:D and he had never even stepped on it
I'm a Gen Xer and I'll tike old time torgue and car styling any day over the new car stuff. So you guys did do a good job of passing down the heritage . I like the new vettes too, but the import stuff (unless its Ferarri but like I'd ever spend that kind of money) just doesn't do much for me.
I can certainly relate to that. And the comment about school buses also.
My Father bought me my first Corvette when I was about 12. Nice 1959 or so model. Red with white coves. Had a bad clutch but that I fixed that for about $8.00; a small fortune that I earned Simonizing neighbour' cars. It was a little small: a fiberglass body on a go-kart frame. A little underpowered with only 3 1/2 hp of Briggs and Stratton engine. But it was mine!
About 25 years later the real thing came along and the rest is history. But I have fond memories of my "first."
That's a great story!! When I've seen boys stare, I often thought of stopping and taking them for a ride, but in today's world that could get you in a lot of trouble! If I ever see someone fixated on my car and they're near home, may have to go introduce myself to there mom and offer a ride.
I still remember a friend of my brothers (they were in Highschool, I was 12 or 13) taking me for a ride in a blown Nova. I know it was a Nova, but the paint was imaculate and a chrome blower stuck out of the hood. That was the coolest ride ever and probably still the fastest car I've ever riden in.
Take a kid for a drive in your Vette whenever you have the opportunity. The things that I remember well as a kid are the generosities that were afforded me and those were few. The fondest memory I have was a couple from Rhode Island driving a new 58 Vette. I was walking along the road and they stopped and asked me for directions. I was speechless from drooling over their car. When the driver asked me if I would like to sit in it I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I know I dreamed about the car for several nights after. :seeya
