I am sold.... I believe that the ls swap is going to be a nice addition to the c3, i will be pulling my 496 and putting it in my one ton truck. along with the mark 8 fan..
I did a lot of research on the swap before making the plunge.... $4500 dollars later i had a 34k ls1 from a 2001 Ws6 Fire bird. The nice thing about the F body cars is the Oil pan and serpentine set up is the closest to fitting in these c3 cars. i also wanted the 460le they are a lot less parasitic than my original 400th and i gained Over Drive... my goal for the build is 400ish Hp and Low end trq.. the 2001-2002 f bodies came with the ls6 intake manifold so that is a plus. Here it is as recived from gus at cleavland pick apart.. he is a very nice guy {thanks Gordam for tip). i guess the reason that i didn't go with the other ls2,3,7 is that for the money the ls1 is a great deal.... the only thing that i would like to do to this engine is a cam swap. these ls engines repsond very very well with just a cam swap. here is the engine that is coming out..
i wanted to run the factory f body 2 stage fans so i called gus at cleavland pick a part a couple days later and asked if i could also get the fans and fuel pump out of the same car he said for 90$ he could ship it with it with the engine
I will be running the original 1 ton brackets on the 496 when i finds it way into the truck.. so im hoping to sell my 1 year old BBC corvette brakets on the forum here along with the short edelbrock water pump and alternator and power steering pump. pictured here
first thing to do is fab a longer boom for my cherry picker to get this engine off the trailer when i get it home to get it to the ground after that here it is on the ground in the garage
Congrats, just take your time and plan for the curveballs we have all faced in one form or another with LSX swap. I'm 70% complete with my LS2/T56 swap.
Nice rig
I take it you don't drive it much in the winter
i bought 3 trucks from az on a trip to vegas about 5 years ago. flew down there and drove this truck back with the others on the trailer the other one was a 72 factory big block with a/c the other was a 78 400 sb and this one was a 6.2l diesel 1 ton with a/c. i sold the others and restored this one... it was a dull blue color so i picked imperal blue. it kinda matches the vette with its blue and silver theme.. i belive it has seen snow one time when i pulled it out when working in the barn..

That's why it's in such good shape....looks well taken care of
I guess that the general configuration of exhaust ports is similar enough that it could be done. Was kinda hoping to see those parts get added to the list of "for sale" items

well dave if i change my mind and sell them ill let you know...
i bought the black ones and had them jet hot coated. now i need to have the coating removed so i can weld in 02 sensors and move around the pipes at the headers. im going to talk to the sanblast guys and see if the coating will come off. if they say its to much work i will sell them as is they are dimpled for power steering...
Well i have been busy. Here in Michigan we are having a very unseasonable weather. its been in the 70's and 80's. so i have been spending time doing some spring cleaning. i was inspired by riggs to paint my engine the classic orange. (thanks Riggs) to simplify the swap have decided to keep the engine stock... for now i just purchased the motor mounts and i want to do a test fit some time this week.
