No not really.... I was kind of interested in the Holley Dominator EFI system with the 2000 cfm throttle body etc...but... I don't think I'll really pick up very much fuel mileage...not enough to spend $3500...

I'd rather buy a 200R4 OD tranny...

Right now I am in the process of building a 800rwhp LQ9 for my Z06 and the cost is eating me alive.

Some good info in this thread!!!!

I'm working on my LQ4 swap for my '80. So I'm paying close attention to this.
And the welding on the frame was a good idea, I was thinking of doing the same thing. It looks like GM got lazy at the factory, sheesh!!!! And since I want to run the stock chassis till I get a full tubular one, welding will have to do for now.

Where was the crack in your frame?
How much power was your 496 making?
Did you do anything to "stretch" or "pull" your frame back to the factory specs for better wheel alignment?

The crack is under the front crossmember. i will take pic of it.

the 496 made just above 600 rwhp and 611fllbs.

i measured a 1975 corvette at" Drago's corvette" here in flint michigan . from center to center of the shock bolts. i then came home and measured my car and i was about . 5/8" in.

it was pull the frame back out or get vett brake and products A arms upper and lower. so i decided to get it close to factory specs.

i will miss the 496.. but i think i will "enjoy" this combo alot more.. i have always had the dream one day to take a multi state road trip. i realized with the 496 combo i would never be able to do it.. now i feel after i put some miles on this ls1 and work out the kinks i will be able to make that trip..

Looks good in there. I like the painted valve covers. Helps out in the looks department for sure. About the foam, it goes in there but it is a tight fit. Tight so it doesn't get blown or fall out.

Saturday woke up early had breakfast and drove 11 miles to work. I Run a PipeFitting Fab Shop, here in Flint MI. Our biggest customer is Gm. With the 2014 Model Change on 1500 2500 and 3500 Trucks we are busy as ever. Gm wants the assymbly line to be functional by fall of 2013.. so with that being said.. im trying to get these "Little Goverment Projects " done be fore i get really busy.. I had every intention to get both Big Block headers done before i left saturday but after 4hrs of modification to one side i called it a day. you can see in this pic that the ls style flange is "kinda Close to the big block style flange. The most important part of this rework is making sure that you have figured out what side is the "pipe" side and which side is passenger and which side is driver's and which side is up! i had some letter stamps and stamped them so i would not lose the marks when i started to heat these up.

And Walla! Hooker Super Comp Lsx Style Header. i spent a little time de burring the inside of these flanges.. i will note that the "Jet Hot" coating really bonds to carbon steel it was giving me a tough time getting a clean weld to the pipe. i had to do alot more weld prep than i anticipated.

Looks great, nice work, how does it fit?

One thing I am not happy with mine is I feel they hang to low and they run slightly down hill.
I guess if my motor was mounted in the car level, they would fit much better, My trans is
mounted up as high as it can be, but it still allows the headers to run down hill towards the
ground, not horribly, but enough to be noticed.

Now the bad news, you have to do one more side.

Oh, and congratulations for having a thriving business in Michigan dealing with GM.

I have to remove the steering column interlock cable and bracket on the
firewall. so i have not fot them yet. but they look like they will work just fine. (fingers crossed). i have noticed alot of headers have a downward pitch to them. i have always wondered why? i would may be sugest heating them on the top with a oxy acytaline torch and quickly quench with a soaking wet rag. we do this alot to correct pitch on the pipe we weld in the fab shop..

And i am not looking forward to reworking the passenger side!!

it is nice to regain some work with GM. we also work on boiler rooms, chemical plants, oil refiners, and nuclear power plants. but Gm is our brad and butter.

Neptune75, once you have fitted at least one of the headers into the car, is there any
way for you to take a photo of how they fit, and how low they hang below the car,
for ground clearances issues. I am thinking about adding a set of headers to mine
like you have built out of the old big block headers, The ones I have hang way to
low and I am looking for the next best option which I believe is this.

Riggs... i have test fitted the drivers side. and have found that it runs into my steering column inter lock cable.. i asked around on the forum and found that i can un hook the cable and run the car with out it. i kind of got off on a tangent while making a bracket for the transmission. and ended up tearing the whole rear end out of the car for a differential rebuild.. i also am having my drive shaft reworked at the moment. i will try and get some more pics up tonight.. i found a little time to mount the f body dual fans to the radiator and install it in the car yesterday.. i found that the lower big block radiator hose puts me pretty close to the strait style water neck. i noticed that my donor came with a "powersteering Heat Exchanger" im not sure if its to cool the power steering fluid or heat it up???? but any way i installed it last night.. it looks OEM and i like that..

Here you see the powersteering cooler... i have about a 1/4" of play in both right and left outer stub axels..

i figure while i have every thing out. my plan is sending out all the rear end parts to the sand blaster. half shafts, drive shaft, rear cross support. gas tank and transmission cross member. and some other stuff...

i'm thinking its time to do the offset Trailing arms and QA-1 Single adjustable shocks and springs for the rear.. and ditching the mono spring.

i have a feeling the car is going to sit like a "tugboat" in the front.. Insted of cutting coil springs in the front im goind to do QA-1's in the front as well along with new rubber bushings, ball joints, tie rods, and other front steering and suspension parts...

removed the rest of the rear end... i have you guys know that i didn' have to sawzall the T/A bolts... the "simply" just came off
i was mowing the lawn when the ups guy showed up with a box from PSI it came with a new harness... i was under the impression that PSI
was going to rework my old harness, they called me and asked "whats this harness for that you sent me" i said its the one i want reworked... he said we don't do that.. i felt like a jack *** any way im happy with the new harness and it wasn;t much more than having the other one reworked. i also orded a trans dip stick, oil dipstick, throttal cable and 2 fan relay's from them too.

Here is a pic of the stock fuel pump that came from the donor F-Body... The black sensor is a Tank Pressure sensor. "not needed for the Ls swap" but the white 4 pin connector is... I talked to john at PSI and he informed me that it is the same connector as the square style O2 Sensor.
he said he had one in his shop and he would send it to me free of charge i opened the box and checked it, he was right!
