Differences between '70 & '71 forward lamp harnesses?
Does anyone know if there are any differences between a '70 and '71 forward lamp harness? And if so, what are they? My car is a '70 and found a '71 harness for sale. According to L'ectric Limited website, there are two different part numbers indicating something was changed. I'd like to know what modifications would be needed. I do have wire diagram for '70, but not for '71. Steve
Hi,
I checked again to be sure.
Only the 70 had 2 horns, 1 high note and 1 low note. 71 and 72 cars had only a single low note horn.
Also, I believe the headlight warning switch was the same part from 69-77.
I see the 72 forward harness has it's own number too; that's probably easier... no fiber-optics.
Regards,
Alan
Thanks for the replies guys. I checked in with M&H tech support - they were very helpful. There are two differences. One is the horns. The other is that one of the two wires thats on the connector which attaches to alternator is a 'resistance' wire for a '70. And its a non resistance wire for '71. The resistance is needed to bleed off charge from the alternator when shutting the engine off. Apparently the resistance is located in this forward lamp harness wire for '70, and is somewhere in the dash harness for '71. He indicated most cars have it in the dash, and '70 was done differently. I do need to buy a '70 forward lamp harness. I'll buy it from M&H because of all the help they gave me. Steve
