Default Brake pedal release/return question

Brakes are great now, but is there a stop when the brake pedal returns , sometimes it uses out the stop light switch, if i pull on it , the pedal will come back another inch or so. Hate to mess with it, because brakes are so good now.

Some years had a brake pedal return spring mounted to the shaft above the brake pedal. You can check your AIM to see if you are supposed to have one and then you can stick your head under the dash and see if the spring is still intact or broken or even present. The weak return might also indicate a weak master cylinder plunger spring.

You installed the wrong booster. There are 2 versions of the booster, one with a short pedal pushrod and another with a long one. All C3s use the long version.

There's a slight *pop* when you lift the pedal up the rest of the way, right? That's the pushrod coming out of its seat in the booster.

Thats right there is a pop when pulled, will i have to change the MC too, mine does not have the "shallow" push rod area, but a hole around an inch into the push rod area.

i have the same problem, and had spent $200 for a period correct booster. i ended up duct taping 4 pennies to the pedal, so when it comes back the pennies push against the sensor and my lights go off. just more redneck injenuity on my Non-Correctly Restored Stingray

No, you don't need to replace the MC.

To be clear, every vacuum brake booster has TWO pushrods. One on either side of the bladder. One of them presses the MC piston. This one can either be long or short to accommodate a deep or shallow well MC piston respectively. The other pushrod attaches to brake pedal arm. ALL C3'S USE THE LONG PEDAL PUSHROD version of the booster.

Ok, changed the booster, now pedal is correct and tail light switch is perfect, has to change MC to a new one with "shallow hole piston" or piston rod recess hole (another 70 bucks) 2 more hours to bench bleed, rebleed entire brake system, rebleed ---rebleed--rebleed (i shower in brake fluid now), brakes are great again. Came to conclusion, 1 0r 2 bubbles the size of Tic/Tacks, screws up the entire system. Corvette brakes are made of evil.
