I have a 76 steering column on my bench and I followed the procedures posted by Jim to the point of I cannot get the bearing housing off, all of the bearings have fallen out anyway, so I want to replace them. Wondering if I missed something in. I have the ignition rod disconnected and the tilt steering in the all the way up position yet it will not come off.

I'm about to restore mine too, and I was wondering if you had the reference of the bearing you're planning to change. I'd like to order them beforehand.
Thanks and good luck with yours.

Your the man after reading your expertise I got the column apart, missed a few steps the first time around, pivot pins was one of them, now to get it back together I need one more bearing which hopefully I can get my hands on tomorrow.
