Default LS1/6 headers for C3

The LS1/6 motor I purchased for my swap did not come with any exhaust manifolds, so of course I want headers. Did a search here and read the LS Directory thread but still need more info. I thought I remembered reading here that F-body headers fit nicely in a C3?

Help me out guys and list the headers you used in your C3 LSx swap. Let me know if they were direct fit or needed modification?

I'm going with Hooker sidemount headers and sidepipes, so I'm of no help. Of course they will need significant modding to work...

I have read of a lot of guys using the Sanderson headers, which should fit well. I think Josh from Custom Image Corvettes has used F-body headers but had to dimple one of the primaries on the driver's side to clear the steering box.

A-ha, I have no steering box. I switched to VB&P's rack and pinion. If thats the only obstacle I could check into those.

Anyone else?

I used the Melrose headers from Vette Aid, they looked nice, but didn't fit well with my Rack and pinion, I had to modify them, Not happy with the Melrose headers. I have heard of a few that have used headers from Stainless Works, I have not heard any complaints about the fitments of these, but I would still do a search about them.

Riggs.

Did the same thing as Riggs did. I had to cut and weld in one of the tubes. I am using Steeroids which is the same as VB rack. Nice headers but I was not happy about cutting them.

I took the cheap route and used Hooker shorty headers. They have a 2.5" collector so I had 2.5" pipes fabbed up to join up to the Magnaflow exhaust. Plenty of clearance for anything with those headers but since the flanges angle slightly toward the engine it's more challenging for someone making connecting pipes.

Stainless Works is someone I haven't checked into. I'll give them a look. Thanks!

Edit: Just checked and they only have side exhaust available.

Yup. I was going to go with them also but they did not offer anything for under car exhaust. If you get the headers from Josh just get them uncoated and fix the tube and then get them coated. Had I known they did not fit I would have done this. I will probably end up getting the whole header recoated

I'm starting to lean towards the BRP Hotrods 1 3/4 mid length headers. Looks like those will save me from a headache or two.

I've found a ls7 for my 77. Will the melrose headers work with my stock steering ?
