Default 69 Tach Cable Picture Please?

I'm trying to remove a faulty tach cable on my 69 non-air conv and I have been fighting with the tach end of the cable for a while now. Does anyone have or know where I can find a picture of what the release clip on the back of the tach looks like? It would be a real help in getting this disconnected as I force my large hands up behind the dash where I can't see. Thanks!

Push on the "clip" and have your helper pull from under the hood.

Hi spf,
This is the speedo, but the tach has the same spring tab that you push to release the tach-cable end. It's the tab below the tach's 'snout'.
When you push the new cable on you dont need to do anything... just push it on until you hear it click in place.
Regards,
Alan

PS: Pete beat me to it. NICE picture!

Is there something I am missing here? I cannot get my hand to the back of the tach no matter how I twist or bend. I can feel the cable housing end but can't reach to the clip. Is it possible to create more room by lowering the steering column or could the clip be pressed by inserting a rod through the hole that the cable goes through in the firewall?

Hi spf,
You might have more room if you drop the column.
Also some people take the seat out (yes the seat). This allows you to lay fully on your back, see up there, and see how you need to snake your hand (or a tool) up there.
The best bet is to have a four or five year old child, that you can pay with cookies, to do it. They can bend any direction, and have the right size arm and hand.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

I was thinking about removing the seat as it would certainly afford a better angle at the mess. Dropping the column would just leave the column in the way anyhow.

Any other tricks out there?

Alan's suggestion to take out the seat is a good one. I took the seat out to change the power brake booster. It helped a lot. If you do not wear glasses use a pair of saftey glasses. Any dirt, insulation etc. you knock loose will fall in your eye. Don't ask how I found that out.

I have had good luck lowering the column and pulling the bezel out as much as possible. I couldn't do it laying on my back however if you remove the bezel and the wiper switch from the center console you have enough room to reach in through there, grab the cable and snap it on.
