Default new exhaust

I just got my car ('75 l-48) back from having a new exhaust put on, this one from corvette central: http://www.corvettecentralexhaust.co...mance_dual.php

This is the patriot headers, true dual midpipes with no X or H, and magnaflow hideaway mufflers.

Because I didn't do the install myself I can't really speak from personal experience to how it went, but the installer said it was somewhat of a pain due to a grounding wire being in the way, and having to lift the transmission out of the way to thread the left side pipe through the crossmember. He found a test pipe where the original cat would have been, which isn't shocking, so minimal change emissions-wise.

The sound is great, not too loud at all. At ~80mph/3500rpm it isn't annoying. I was originally thinking about moving to an OD transmission but now I don't think I'm gonna bother unless my original 4spd blows up.

I know a lot of people recommend X or H pipes but I'm very pleased with this setup, to say the least. I'll throw some pictures up when I get a chance.

Hopefully he gave you the test pipe. There will always be someone on the forum in need of one. Offer it on the 4 sale section.

Installed that system myself, less the headers, and it wasn't that difficult. I can't understand the need to jack up the transmission for the pipe though. I needed to jack up my transmission because I had to install the exhaust hanger for the dual system. In 78, with a 4spd, there was no hanger.

You don't need a x or h pipe.

Good luck. Really like mine and with age it seems to get louder

Good idea, I definitely don't need a test pipe. Gotta find my camera.

I dunno if a new hanger was needed, I haven't looked too closely at it yet. I know the '75 is supposed to be dual-ready despite the 2-1-2 factory setup. I thought the later 70s models only had one crossmember hole, how'd you do duals? Maybe I'm wrong, certainly no expert.

pictures. Not very good without it on a lift, but you get the idea. It's a dual despite the deceptive single muffler pic.

up to '79 had dual hole in cross member but at least by '78 the DS hanger was not attached. No problem just making one up unless you are picky about details. If so, boneyard or vette shop may be cheapest but it is such a simple piece. RHS and LHS are the same. Someone in our vendors may sell them - they should be minimum $.

I was thinking to get the same kit for my car... any issue with spark plugs clearance?

when you get time , loosen those clamps in your picture and rotate them so they wont catch on crud as you drive over it, plastic shopping bags are the worst, then they melt and smell . I usually run them straight up

Hi,
I had a similar thought to Alaska's except I pictured my scalp with a GASH in it from rolling into the clamp on my creeper!
I actually have 2 scars; one on my head and another on my shoulder.
Nice looking system!
Regards,
Alan

I left mine down for access but cut the remaining threads flush. I then tack welded the nut on to clamp to keep it from backing off. A little extra effort but looks nice and clean.

Was thinking of using those patriot headers from CC on my '72 with the N11 off road mufflers if possible.

I've had the same long tube headers with walker turbos on the car for over 20 years. They won't die.

But I seem to remember some on the forum complaining of clearance issues with how the patriots fit. So, been reluctant to buy them.

Appears to not be a problem with this install.

Yeah I flipped the bolts when I did the rear suspension. I dunno why they were that direction.

I haven't had any issues with my plug wires but some of them are zip tied aside where they would have touched the headers.

Mine too. It sounded kind of tinny when it was new and now it has a nice low rumble. Still pretty quiet overall, though, at least compared to any other aftermarket mufflers.
