L82's were not available in 81 so I will asume that you have the 190HP base motor that was the only one available in 81. That motor had 8.2-1 compression with 76cc chamber heads and a shim head gasket (approx .016). If you us the Fast Burn head (PN# 12464298) with 62cc chamber and a composite head gasket (approx .038) you will end up with 8.97-1 compression.
Joe, Welcome to the CF!!
I'll try to answer your question.
From the GM Restoration Manual. Combustion chamber volume offered in cu. in. only. For a 1980 L48....5.94cu.in. For a 1980 L82....5.47cu.in.
Hope this helps. L8TER, Paul.
thanx pete, I misstyped the L82 I did mean L81 I tried to edit the post but I guess it didn't work.... go figure. Thanx for the compression conversion.

I think your safe to assume you have 76cc heads. Welcome to the forum.
Not a stupid question by any means, if you ever have the valve covers off the casting number would give a definitive answer.

Thanx again for the help guys. I'm still new to the 350 engine I just upgraded to the vette from my '00 Sunfire. A v8 is a whole new world for me.
