Default 73 external antenna delete.

If i removed the external antenna on the rear deck do I simply unscrew the Assembly ? What can I hook the lead to so I can keep reception from the antenna in the dash ? Is there some sort of kit or will I need to make something up ?

The AIM shows the installation. You can remove the mast and lower the body through the hole but you will still have grounding plate under the fender.

The antenna you just removed.

You will probably have to engineer your own replacement antenna.

If you do not like the looks of the stock fixed mast, you could install a power antenna.

Thanks mike. Yes....not liking the fixed mast antenna. Would prefer a cleaner look and no antenna visible at all. Convertible so i cant run something on the window. Was thinking maybe there is an aftermarket solution someone has tried to use with luck...

The old school way to cheap easy fix is go to the hardware store and get a stainless plus the same size. It looks like a little chrome button covering the hole. I'll do that until the repaint.

I put a power antenna in my 73 vert and like the fact it's only up while driving with radio on. You could always hook up a toggle switch to only allow it to go up when you want it to.

FWIW: the 53-55s had the antenna embedded in the trunk lid. You might wig up something similar using the underside of the rear surround panel or, possibly, the back wall of the underbody. Raise the deck lid and take a look at mounting something on the under side.

A electrical antenna works very well and is small, but then you're getting yourself in to more work as it needs 12v (radio on) and rerout the cable to your radio.
