I've Set My Lifter Pre-Load!
One item that kept hanging me up was missing the paint marks by 1-2"! I'd have to rotate the engine, walking past each paint mark/point so that I could return to the missed cylinder. Needless to say, a little frustrating. Makes me want to go out and buy one of those remote starters that you can use to bump the starter with.
I'm likely confirm my settings due to lack of faith in my work so the benefits I have realized (no oily engine and floor) from Lar's instructions may be in vain. All because I missed the "2 cylinder degree point by about 2" and don't really trust my skills at setting static timing on a v8. I did consume my fair share of beer attempting though!
It's alot easier to set static timing on an in-line 4 cylinder motorcycle engine with a kick-starter to 'lean on' while watching the timing marks through the sighting window behind the points...
