Since we all know that the doors on C3's rust. What do you recommend to repair. Total replacement of door, Por -15, or rebuilding of the area. Front of door where it meets winshield is almost rusted through, weatherseal is dried up, etc. I would like to try this myself, but no experience in body repair.
I have this exact problem. Where the end of the weatherstrip attaches to the top of the door at the windshield there is a screw. Mine has nothing to screw to. It is completely eaten away. This is the only rust on the entire car. I am doing a frame off soon and am planning on replacing the entire door. For some reason, the passenger side isn't rusted at all.
I may change my mind after I get the door off and disassembled and I price a replacement door.
Have you priced a door recently? I am even having trouble finding a good one. I am thinking of using Por-15 and then replacing weatherseal. Any experience with this? My car is an 82, and is a driver, not ready for a frame off restoration. Both doors have the same problem, but that is the only spot with rust.
The area near my kickpanels looks like crap. I actually had to take my shop vac and suck all the rust chips out of the hole. Not good. And Im not sure how to go about tackling this issue. The way I see it, I'm going to start by shooting some rust inhibitor (i.e. WD-40) into the area. Then, next year, when I need another project, maybe I'll try to fix this area for real.
I would try Por 15, but I have no experience with it, it is worth a shot. I am heading to Bloomington Gold in a few weeks, may look for some doors. I had a quote of $400 a door locally. Think my driver can wait awhile for new doors at that price.
