Default CC's tight tuck headers

http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb....Z5Z5Z50000050Q

I will be upgrading my stock 2" system and am looking for a decent complete system for a decent price. Summit and Jegs have long tube headers (uncoated, high temp paint coated or ceramic coated) for anywhere from $130 to $270...should I buy the stuff seperate or is this set from CC worth getting? Tight tuck headers vs long tube? Alluminized?

Any recommendations/links you can share or your systems?

Thanks

My impression is tight tuck headers are more for applications where fitting traditional long tube headers is complicated or impossible. I would go with a long tube package. Depending on funds, stainless or ceramic or aluminized would be the way to go.

Default flowtech

I have a set of Flowtech ceramic long tube headers. Three years old and still look great. I put them on at home with just a regular set of auto ramps. Cleared everything with no "adjustments".

Are these the 1.625" x 3" size? by the way is that the stock size for a small block?

So the preferred is to have ceramic coated headers.

What about pipes? All I see is alluminized, nothing ceramic coated. Is it as important to get ceramic pipes or not because it is "easier" to replace them?

My system is not over sized as I have a stock 350. The alum. coating on exhaust pipes does usually help keep out the rust. You can get stainless systems but they co$t bucks.

The coating on the headers also cuts down on underhood heat. Doesn't bake the plug wires like uncoated. I have not run stainless headers so I can't speak for them.

I just love the clean look. No discoloration after all this time.

post some pics when you finish yours

Has anybody tried ss headers and then coating them yourself? For some reason I cant find many options for a small block 71 long tube headers that are ss and ceramic coated or just ss

I have the summit SUM-9003 headers and they fit perfect. I stripped the black paint off of them and coated them with VHT before I installed them

Yea, Ive seen the summit ones before with surprisingly OK reviews. I think just looking at Summit my choices are the following (Headman is out due to fit issues). Any comments will be appreciated. All of these are ceramic coated:

Flowtech 31106FLT

Summit SUM-G9103

Patriot H8025-1

Hooker 2456-1HKR (these are the only out of the group with OVAL cylinder head port shape... I have the original L46 small block... will round and oval fit?)

Default C3 Tight Tuck Headers

I have recently purchased a Magnaflow exhaust system and Patriot Tight Tuck Headers for my 1977 C3 and have come across a problem:.

Upon removal of the original cast headers it was noted that the car is fitted with a Heat Riser Valve with a Vacuum Actuator that cannot be refitted due the Tight Tuck Headers, what problems will I have if any if I discard the Heat Riser and If I need to re-fit it how is this possible with the new headers.

Also the Spark plug caps are fouling on the tubes of the headers, is there an alternative plug cap or leads that I need to fit.

Highjacked!!!!!

rafalc, I have been using the CC exhaust with the tight tuck headers for about 3 years now, and I'm pretty happy with the setup. My only complaint would be that it didn't come with any instructions, and you kind of have to be a little creative when it comes to hanging it. I think on an otherwise stock engine, the tight tuck headers will be fine for your uses.

I have the CC system since May and am very happy with it. It installed with no problems and I like the MagnaFlows a lot. No complaints here. My heat riser was already disconnected so that didn't matter. The system does come with a port for the O2 sensor which I used.

Thanks Scott. I went with long tubes and the Pypes system. Headers are installed (I have a cool video here: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...project-5.html ). The Pypes system is yet to be installed.

Oh, man! I didn't notice how old the thread was!
Good luck with the rest of your exhaust install!

I'm interested in seeing how the Pype's system gets that x-over in there. Now that i found a good local exh shop i will never buy pre-bent exh. But i think the best fit is with using an H-pipe under the trans to keep the pipes up high enough.

Good luck,
cardo0

Pypes website has picture of their system installed on a 69 vert. I dont expect this to be a direct bolt on, Im going into this expecting some cutting/welding may be needed.

After hearing my car with open headers that little voice in my head says FORGET MUFFLERS!!!!!
