OK I am at a loss. I have a 70 454 with a Muncie 4 Speed M21 transmission. I broke a tooth off the 1st gear drive. So I decided to replace the clutch at the same time. My transmission has a 10 spline shaft but for the 454 they only show a 26 spline count. So I am trying to understand why that would be. I am certain(as certain as I can be) the car is all orignial...I bought it from the original owner and he had a book detailing everything including oil changes..etc. So I assume he didn't change the transmission and clutch.
1st design Muncie '63-'65 was a meduim duty trans with 7/8" countershaft.
2nd design Muncie '66-'70 used a 1" countershaft, 10 spline input.
3rd design Muncie '71-'74 used a larger diameter, fine 26 spline input and also came with both a fill plug and drain plug.
