Starter Issue/Question
I took the big step and bought a rebuilt starter at AutoZone for $31. Seems like a reasonable price, expecially since it has a lifetime warrenty.
I'll install tomorrow along with the insulating wrap. Hopefully, that will do the trick.
See http://www.corvetteforum.net/c3/tune...l/index9.shtml
for the location of the neutral safety switch.
Hope this helps.
This may be of interest; I noticed that the solenoid on the new starter had "High Heat" stamped on it, which the old one didn't. Could they be making solenoids that can now withstand the heat?
I will keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks for all your help with this one!
I have replaced the battery, battery cables, new starter from AC/Delco, new starter bolts and new ring gear.
I keep breaking the nose on the starter, have been through 5 AutoZone starters and finally put in the AC/Delco unit. And then the nose on it broke and I put another one in. Now I am getting that nasty grinding sound, yes I checked the shims. It looks like the teeth on the starter ring are ground down again. My next step is to replace the engine and forward lamp harnesses.
I don't know what else to do. Does anyone know why I keep braking noses and grinding starter rings???????
