Default HOOD ALIGNMENT QUESTIONS...

well...my hood is out of alignment...the engine was oviously rebuilt and when they put the hood back on, they didnt get it lined up quite good enough for my eyes if you know what i mean...
it sits a little low in the nose...about 1/8th"...
its a little high back near the windshield...about 1/8"
the lines that run up along the fender from front to rear are very parallel but the one on the drivers side is narrow and the one on the passenger side is wider...

my first step was to remove the rubber blocks that were glued down with gorilla snot along the sides...2 on each side...and move them closer towards the nose hoping that that would raise the front and in effect, lower the rear...
well...it did but not quite enough...

do i shim the front hinge brackets up a little and while im at it move the hood over slightly?
it looks to me like the only thing that could suck the hood down in the rear is the hood latches...are these adjustable?

what are the tricks to this? im sure there some...
any help would be greatly apreciated....:)

Raise the front with a shim under each hinge. While you're there, side to side can be adjusted while the front hinge bolts (on the frame side) are loose and moving the rear of the hood to widen/narrow the gap as needed. You can adjust the rear latch mount (front/back & side2side) if needed by loosening the 4 nuts anchoring the mount. Raise the rear by inserting a screwdriver in the slot on the latch post and turning counter clockwise.

If you have an Assembly Manual, it specifies the exact location of the blocks. The front and rear blocks are even mounted differently from one another or they are different sizes.

When you shim the front make sure the hood is even or slightly below the nose. If you raise the front too much you'll catch debris which will can possibly chip the leading edge of the paint on the hood. By keeping the hood even or slightly below this debris flows over the hood and windshield and causes no harm. Same holds true for headlamp doors. Just thought I'd share the voice of experience.

does anybody know how to get that end down? it dosnt appear that there IS a way....hhhhmmmm?????

removing the blocks made it level (even) along the top of the drivers side but its still a little low on the other side (and nose)
do i NEED the blocks there? will it hurt anything NOT using them?

Do not put the blocks close to the front of the hood or you will put to much strain on the fiberglass. If it is low at the front you must shim the hood hinge. Not having blocks is not a problem, they are only for holding up the middle section slightly. Good Luck, Craig

My 79 didn`t have any of those blocks on the hood. I took them off when I put the new weather strip on. I agree, shouldn`t be any problem to leave them off of yours.

I do not have the rubber blocks and that has never presented any problems. My alignment is not perfect; I do not believe it ever can be with C3s. I certainly would not worry about 1/8".

ive got it pretty close thanx to all of you for your advise :)
problem is that i ended up with two blocks on one side and none on the other :(
to me (im a tad **** retentive) it looks unsimetrical so i think ill take the two other blocks and shave them down and put them on the other side for looks...
LOL
thanx again....
