Default Engine Hiccup

It started with me tinkering with my carburetor. It had a hard idle and with some adjustments my car didn't idle hard anymore however now my car does this rumble when I turn it off and its not all the time either. Its usually after the first run of the day and the rest of the day its fine with it doing a violent shake every now and then. I am thinking I need a new carburetor. Now fluids shoot out nothing the car just shakes.

I would guess it's a timing issue - what is your initial timing set at? You might want to retard it a bit.

im barely idling at 1000rpm. What sucks about this is that it comes and goes. It usualy gives me a violent shake after my first run of the day and then stops.

1000 idle seems a little high. Mine is about 800-850. Do you have your timing set for initial or all in by 28-3200?

I adjusted my carb and my car has weak startups and low power. I find myself pumping the pedal to get her started. The car acts like it wants to die especially when i put it in reverse. I didn't have any of these problems until i messed with my carb a week ago.

i adjusted the idle mixture screw. I touched one of the front screws but barely. I adjusted the screw again and my diesling gets worse, i put it down and my power is so low the car wants to die. I cant find a happy medium.

What year, and what carburetor? How many miles since a tuneup?
You may have to go back to square one, and set the engine up by the book and to the specs: both distributor and carburetor.

As Lars says, 90% carb problems are ignition problems...
Have you checked timing?

I have no idea how to adjust my timing. i havent had a runon happen in days. very confusing. im guessing my order of repair is going to be spark plugs, timing, distributor and then i'll mess with the carb.

Buy a timing light (with dial-back is better) and a vacuum gauge is mandatory in order to diagnose these "old style" cars. My 2 cents...
