I will be replacing the missing actuator on my 350/300 no A/C convertible but the linkage needs to be replaced as it is broken. The space it is in looks tight but might be accessible by taking off the wiper door.
What is the best way to remove the old broken one? I couldn't find anything in the AIM.
You can kinda see the where it is broken in the picture.
That rod is connected (to the bar that moves the door up and down) with a stud and a nut, located under the wiper door. Just remove the nut and you should be able to pry it off the stud.
If you look closely, you will see that the broken rod is riveted to the wiper linkage at the factory. You will have to remove the wiper door assembly, drill out the rivet and ZIP sells the parts to replace it for a 69-72. I am very surprised that you have a 69 and the 5/16" shaft is broken. The shafts on 68's are only 1/4" and they snap off. Good luck, Lou.
My apologies! The rod I`m thinking of actually goes to the switch, not the actuator! Lou is correct!
(Could this mean trouble with my short-term memory?)
Can't tell for sure in the pic, but are you saying the actuator rod is broken and part of it still in the link? If so, major PITA.
You might be able to get hand on it with the wiper door open, but probably won't have room to work on it. Remove the wiper door and it will be easier to reach.
TIP: the AIM shows installation only. Assembly line workers were not concerned with disassembly. Just the same, knowing how something was assembled is often helpful when we take take things apart.

Hi SV,
You MIGHT have enough access by just removing the wiper well GRILL to make the repair.
I'd try that first!!! If you have to remove the wiper door and linkage you'll have to realign the door, and grill, to the fenders and hood afterwards, which is not a pleasant job
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
There was no getting to it without taking out the entire assembly. I was expecting it to be difficult and it was a pain but it came out without too much trouble.
Here is a better shot of where it is broken. New part being ordered.
At least I know how "fun" to put it all back together. No looking forward to making sure that everything is aligned up properly and the time it will take but good news is that I am on vacation this week with plenty of spare time.
