Supercharging 1969 350?
Hey guys I'm thinking about supercharging my 1969 350/300, was wondering if it's even a good idea, and what exactly I would have to do to the engine in order to make it able to handle the extra power, etc.

If it has the stock style pistons and heads the compression ratio is about 10 to 1. to much really for a supercharger. Also the pistons are cast which is not good for supercharging. Really if yo uare going to the expense of putting a blower on and want to make real power build the motor properly. If yo uare just going for the look well then anything goes but it will run like a dog and a good carb setup will blow it away. Properly setup blowers make great power. Done poorly they get laughed at.
What kind of power are you looking for and to do it right you need forged internals.

Well when I think of blower I picture the big ones like BDM makes that go through the hood, if I were to put a supercharger on mine I'd just put a regular one that fits under the hood

The 300 hp 350 is a poor candidate for a blower for the reasons Gordonm stated. If it's the #'s matching engine, don't even think about it.

It is the #'s matching engine, I'm mostly looking for ways to increase the power without having to pull the engine or completely rebuild it. I know there's a lot of bolt ons that you can get, any reccommendations?

Blower or super charger what ever you want to call it puts positive pressure into the intake therefore forcing air into the combustion chamber. No matter if it is a roots type. through the hood or a centrifical, under hood they provide positive pressure. Neither one of those will work very well with your current setup You need forged internals and lower compression to really get good results from a "blower/supercharger".
That being said you can do a lot with what you have from exhaust to cams to heads. Exhaust, cam and heads will really wake your motor up. It all depends on your budget. How fast you go is close to how much you want to spend.

Recurve the distributor. You will be suprised at the performance difference. If you have 3.08 gears put 3.55 differential in it.

These two things will make it feel like a different car and is way easier and cheaper than a supercharger and won't destroy the value of your original engine 69.

I would suggest you get another engine ,like i did and keep your original engine in storage. You need forged pistons,a must ,for supercharging. And lowering your compression would be nice ,but i have run superchargers on cars with 10 to 1 compression, you just cant run as high boost.i prefer going this route. i do this on my vette now.It is wickedly quick.i dont run without a supercharger.all my vehicles i drive are supercharged.one is centrifical and the other roots type. To do it right and make it run really good better heads, cam, forged engine internals headers, etc. But you dont have to do all that,if you have forged pistons, just buy a weiand 144 and or centrifical SC and better fuel and have fun.The higher the boost ,the more you have to put into your engine. You will get an extra 100 hp just bolting it on.with better fuel of coarse.BUT the 144 will not fit under a stock hood, you can make a l88 hood work with air cleaner mod.Me ,i like a injector scoop, but later i will close the hood up when i get tired of it.
