depends on who you ask. I have mallory unilite in 2 different cars for decades without issue. Others swear by Petronix II. Others will question why you dont stick with points for reliablity. Do a search and you will come up with lots of threads on the topic.
I have a Crane in the car now. It has been in for about 4 years, but, I'm not sure it's working right so I want to replace it. Just wanted to know if there was a better one.
I have had a Pertronix in my '70 for about 12 years now. Tach drive retained, looks stock except for one extra wire and I have never had a single problem with it. I have tried Unilites in other cars and have had problems, some of which were self-inflicted but have had no such issues with the Pertronix. A couple guys on this Forum have been very loudly opposed to the Pertronix but overwhelmingly the responses have been very positive.
Thanks for the feedback. Pertronix has an Igniter3 that looks to have more features. I think I'll try that.
Have a search around for info on the Ignitor3.
It seems to me when I was looking at them I ran across several packs of info that more or less said the 3 was better suited for the track than the street and that the Ignitor2 was more suited for street.
I don't recall the details or where I was reading it, and it might have been from Pertronix themselves.
Anyway, look at where you plan on using the car before you buy.

pertronix has excellent tech. and when you call , someone is actually there instead of those endless call backs and e-mails. I converted an old dodge school bus into a fishing buggy and then used their unit to convert to electronic ign. it never failed to start and ended all those flooding , rough starting issues.
