Shifter not engaging
Now and then when I prepare to start from a stop sign I go through first, second and then first so it will stay at first gear. It would stay in first, but now and then it would pop out and when I try to re-engage it would want to go to reverse.
I found a rebuilt kit, but my question: Would that take care of this problem or just go with the complete shiter with every component being new.

Without getting in there and physically looking at it it is impossible to really know exactly what's wrong. If it's the stock shifter there are several extra brackets that hold the shifter to the frame that could be loose, and I've seen more than one of these threads where simply cleaning, tightening, and lubricating everything made it work well again. If it's popping out of gear though you could have some worn internals in the trans, but the first thing I'd be looking at is the tightness and adjustment of the shifter assembly.
