OK, I previously put an Edelbrock carb and performer manifold on my '79. I am now doing suspension and brakes and decided to change the fuel lines along with the brake lines.
I installed a Holley mechanical fuel pump that does not require a regulator or return line. I ran -6AN braided hose from the tank to the pump and pump to filter/carb. I removed the evap cannister and return line.
My question now is what do I do with the openings on top of the gas tank (the old return inlet, and the tee and inlet for the evap cannister)? Can I just cap them off or does the tank need to be vented somehow? On all my previous cars I ran an electric fuel pump with a return line and no vent. Oh yeah, I also have a Stant locking gas cap. Thanks in advance!
Not to be nasty, but I guess I'll never understand why people strip stuff off their cars that help it operate properly.
Harvey- the return line from the fuel pump was there to eliminate the possibility of vapour lock. C3s are prone to this especially with hot weather and possibly some brands of E10 fuel. The evap canister weighs very little and eliminates the 'stinky car in the garage' issue as well as provides a vent for the gas tank.
Vented cap and or leaving the evap line open will work to vent but if you keep the car inside (which I assume you do) you may get nasty fumes in the garage.
