Default Cam selection advice

OK, so some time has passed since I started this thread:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...g-top-end.html

Budget went out the window, of course. Now that I have purchased some parts and have the engine stripped down, I have decided to replace the CC Magnum 280H FT cam with a hyd. roller. I've done some number crunching with the online calculators from KB Pistons, Wallace Racing and some others and the results are near the same. My SCR will be 10.7:1 and I need to keep the DCR below 8.5:1. In order to do that, I need a cam that has the intake valve closing north of 65 degrees ABDC. My quench height will be .050". If I go with a FelPro .015" head gasket I think my compression will be too high but I'm asking? Here is the final top end build less the cam yet to be selected with advice from the forum:

AFR 195 Street Eliminator's, 65cc
Holley HP Street 650 DP
Roller rockers, 1.52:1
Comp Cam Magnum pushrods
MSD 6425, 6AL
Taylor Spiro wound wires
Mr Gasket .027" Ultra Seal hd gasket
Holley 110 gph fuel pump
Proform aluminium die cast cam cover
Stewart Stage 2 water pump
Stewart thermostat 160 and 180 F (which is better for my build?)
Weiand Team G single plane intake

I've narrowed my cam selection down to the CC Magnum 286 retrofit Hyd roller. The intake valve closing is 69 deg that gives me about an 8.2 DCR. The lift is .560 I & E. I won't be driving the car enough to worry about fuel cost and I'm not concerned about street manners or low end performance. So, how about it guys?

if you want THE perfect cam for your combo/car weight/gear Chris Straub is the man to talk to. straubtechnologies.com
If you are stuck on an aftermarket cam get a billet core make sure and DONT get a billet cam gear on it.
Got a Comp HR stick sitting here (cast core) with 18k and the lobes are literally disintegrating.

IMO todays imported crappy metals not so much the oil everyone points their fingers at.

Thanks for your responses. I find it odd that a roller cam would wear out that quickly. By design, being a "roller" vice a "rubber" such as a FT, it should have lasted longer imho but it happens unfortunately.

Anyway, are you guys agreeing that a CC Magnum 286HR or equivalent spec'd cam will work good? I'm not looking for thee best cam but one that will not be a dog for my build. I'll be contacting Howard's Cams next week to get their specs because I can't find the valve event timings on their website. The KB pistons (KB119) I have are cut with a .285" valve relief. Anyone used these with a high lift cam? I think I may be borderline on a .560 valve lift with these pistons.
