I have a 72 with power windows and the driver side has a bad motor (tested with meter and has a direct short). The window is at the bottom and I am not able to reach the bolts to remove the motor. Any tips on raising the regulator, or do I need to remove the regulator as well as the motor?

The ground for the window motor is from the case of the motor,
The end terminals of the wiper motor get power on one side to go up and power to the other terminal makes it go down. Is that how you tested it?
Yes, with the switch activated we had 11 to 12 volts on either side of the motor. When we tested across the motor we had a direct short. My issue is the window is down and I am not able to access the bolts to remove the motor. Is it possible to raise the regulator / window with the dead motor in place?

OK got it, bad motor
The regulator is spring loaded to help push the window up.
If you remove the motor with the window down the regulator will spring up.(like a dangerous mouse or finger trap).
Iv'e seen posts where a helper pushes the window down and you remove the motor but never tried that myself.
