Default 1970 Trailing arm trouble

After taking a look at my vette on the lift, it looks like my 70 is going to need new trailing arms. The right hand side arm is showing some real bad rot on the top of it and i figured it would be best to replace them both.

My questions is; Is there any real advantage to buying a new set of trailing arms from a manufacturer or would used arms off of a decent donor do? 68-82 all the same?

I've never done the rear supsension in a vette before so please try to help me out on this one guys. I'll also be replacing all the bushings, shims, and anything else that looks worn in the rear.

Thanks! If you know of any decent priced places, dont hesitate to let me know. I'll hit the for sale forum as well.

Dustin

Yes Sir; Mr. Dustin, If you are going to replace everything, just buy a rebuilt or new set complete with everything, & a set of bolts & shims. install them your self. I had Jacobs Corvette's Mr. Harvey ( 1-412-264-9151 ) build me a complete set of new Trailing Arms. They are great. Have a great day. Gene

There are places that sell just the arms; the usual suspects like CC, Corvette America, Zip, etc.- if you do swap them out for a set of used arms you're still going to have to check and possibly replace the bearings. They do pretty much interchange from '68 to '82. These things are the Achilles' heel of C3 Corvettes, pretty much the first thing you need to check.

Thanks, Ive looked though a few of the catalogs. Maybe I can rebuild some quality used arms and save myself some money. If I find a real deal on a set of arms that are all set to go, I'll be sure to ****** them up.

You can have yours rebuilt by someone like Van Steel, they did mine. The downfall is shipping them to them and waiting for they to come back. BUT, they do they right. There are forum members who do it also, they may be closer to you and save shipping and time doing it.
