82 fuel pump assy in a 78
I pulled the tank out of my 1978 to install an electric fuel pump. once I had the tank out I wondered if they used the same tank on the 82 and if so could I use the filler assy out of an 82 with the in tank fuel pump? Has anybody done this or know if this will work

Yes I have and no I wouldn't. The 82 Pump isn't all that good it will run a low pressue Carb but not FI very well. The 82 guys are useing the 85 C4 Pump. So I figured I'd use the 82 assembly and use an aftrmarket Pump but all the componets of the 82 are made of Pop Metal and nothing can be Welded, Soldered or Brazed. I ended up useing it for a template to build my own but thats about it, not worth the exspence.

Kinda..............
However, the '82 and '84 use TBI, Throttle Body Injection, and these units work on about 12 psi. 1985 and up Corvettes use EFI, Electronic Fuel Injection that runs on about 55 psi. So that is why an EFI system will not work with a TBI fuel pump. And BOTH are too much for a carburettor, which on a Corvette, likes about 6-7 psi.
If you are still running a carburettor and the fuel pump is in good condition, then you could put a FPR, a Fuel Pressure Regulator, between the pump and the carb, and that should work. Make sure you set it at about 6 psi though.
I'd thought about putting an electric fuel pump in my Vettes to help getting petrol up to the carb when I hadn't driven them for a while, but now I make sure that I drive them at least once a week, and I don't have a problem. I rarely have to crank the engines more than five seconds before they fire up.

http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...1978-1982.htmlgas tanks are the same .the sending unit for the 82 is expensive.the fuel pump from the 82 is higher than what you need ,but you could put a fuel pressure regulator in .i would stick with a manual type fuel pump.

Thanks for the replies. My car needs to crank about 6 times while floored then pump the pedal four times before it will start so I figured a electric fuel pump would solve that.

They do make inline electric pumps which would be easier but it sounds like you have another issue going on that needs to be tracked down, probably with your carb. After it sits for a day or two, take the air cleaner off, look into the carb and move the throttle. You should see gas squirt out of the acceleration jets. If not the float bowl is leaking which is common. Time for a rebuild.
