Distributor Question - What does the Upper Thrust Bearing Surface Look Like?
I've been looking at my distributor and about the only problem I can find with it is the shaft has too much up and down movement. The manual says to select a different shim size at the gear end so the movement is limited to less than 0.010. My question is what about the upper thrust surface. It looks like its the upper edge of the upper bearing riding against the inside of the breaker cam. Mine isn't flat and the upper bearing edge is being worn in at an angle. Does anyone have any idea what this is suppose to look like and how much wear is expected in this area? This area is a bit hard to get at so I'm sure no one would let me take their new distributor apart to see what a new one was like. Any thoughts?

unless you are running a 2 gear drive cam that turns in reverse rotation the thrust is upward on the distributor so the shims go between the gear and the distributor body. :chevy
