I have a ’76 with power window problems. The 10 amp fuse in the cavity marked, "GAUGES," that connects the pink/black wire between the ignition switch and the power window relay blows when I turn the ignition on. I’ve replaced the 30 amp circuit breaker and the power window relay, no help. I’m not quite sure where to start looking for the problem. Can you point me in the right direction?
I know this sounds odd, but do you have any dyno mat or anything like that under the console? The reason I ask is because if any of the power window switch wires are bare and touching something like dyno mat, it will cause a dead short. Just a long shot.
No, no dyno mat. It almost has to be a short somewhere, IMHO. I'm just not sure which side of the fuse box to start looking? Or, how to look for that matter.
Plugging the wire into IGN. I'll assume I need to remove the fuse box itself to do this?

I'm redoing a 71, I found the power window feed from the relay to the switches rubbing on the instrument support frame and grounding out. The previous owner cut the wire and ran it from the switches to the battery to eliminate the problem. He unplugged the feed from the fuse box which activates the relay.
Taped the wire (twice) and it's working now. Wilcox has a great diagram which makes it easy to trouble shoot. The frame which the relay is screwed to acts as the relays ground.
In this case it was the red / white stripe wire which was chaffed. (also the wire he cut and ran directly to the battery. This makes the windows always powered - unless you use a battery isolator.)
