Default 79 will not start....???

Hi, I'm new to the site and I'm stumped...79 L82 won't start.... run great before and now nothing... not even a click @ the starter. I have a new battery, alternator, ignition switch, distribtor , and silenoid on the starter....I thought maybe the neutral safety switch???? can't find it on the trans. It will start if jumped @ silenoid.
HELP...HA HA!!

Safety switch (could be out of adjustment, check while moving shifter) should be attached to the shift lever under the console.
Check the purple wire at the solenoid all the way back to the ign switch to see where you loose power.

If you have a 4spd you are not going to find the neutral safety switch there.

It's near the pedal under the dash.

check for power at the solenoid coming from the ignition switch....then check the fusible links down there.

What I would do is jump out the safety swirch to see if it's the problem. Also check for voltage at the starter. These are good starting pionts. Yes I have learned the hard way on my old cars..

The good old days, when we would jump under the car and stick a screwdriver across the solenoid to start the car. LOL!

OK.... check voltage at the Neutral safety switch, the blue and green side were good but the purple side had nothing ( car was in park)...so it must be the switch correct? the switch adjustment looked fine nothing loose anyway.

I temp. bypassed the neutral safety switch and the vette started but the starter stayed ingaged. the new ignition switch is starting in the run position...is it from me bypassing the NSS or the new ign. switch is bad?

I have bypassed or jumped out neutral safety switches in the past and never had the starter stay on.

I can't see it being the bypass....it's like the run and start positions are the same, like there is no spring back to the run position....has to be the new ign. switch...brand new too, good thing I saved my old one..

If the '79 ignition switch is like my '74 which is on the column and is moved by a rod that is connected to the key, then the ignition switch may need adjusted.

tried adjusting....not it. still starts in run position and stater stays ingaged.....I can turn key to run and let go and it keeps turning over untill I turn off.....well, can it be the neutral safety switch bypass is run direct now? I don't understand how, but it's the only thing different
