Default Choke Adjustment

To all you carb gurus out there. Quick question: When the choke closes before a cold start should the butterfly be closed all the way or should there be a small air gap between the butterfly and the air horn?

small gap. if it closed you would stall, no air.

Ok now I'm getting the idea. Thanks both of you for the info. If I understand correctly the choke is closed until the engine starts and the the pull off will open it enough to allow air into the system..

When you steo on the gas to set the choke before a cold start, the choke flap should be fully closed. Once the engine starts, and begins producing vacuum, the choke pulloff opens the choke flap a little bit. The choke flap opens as the engine warms up from there.

Keep the shiny side up!

Wow...what a difference. Adjusted the choke so that it just closes when cold and adjusted the pull off so that after the engine starts the choke plate opens about 1/4 of and inch. Runs great, tomorrow morning will be the true test. Thanks Guys

I've adjusted ALL my chokes like that. It's not like we drive in real cold weather and need long warmups.
I also turned down the fast idles.
