ok, I have needed to adjust my windows for a while, but I wanted to wait until I was out of school before tackling it. Well, my window crank snapped off in my hand yesterday, so I guess it's time. :D
Fortunately, the only thing that broke was the handle itself, none of the door components were damaged.
What I'm wondering is if any one has instructions for adjusting the windows on a '76 that they would mind scanning or copying and sending to me? I would be happy to pay for postage, cost of copies, etc.
I appreciate any help,
Scott
Re: Need instructions on adjusting widows (Shrike)
The chassis service manual and the AIM both have good step by step instructions on how to adjust the windows. I'd suggest you buy one or both of these for your '76. It's one of those "give a man a fish, or teach a man to fish" kind of things. The service manual and AIM will let you have fish for a lifetime. ;)
Re: Need instructions on adjusting widows (Shrike)
Read the manual and then just get in there and play. Once you understand how it works it's pretty easy.. Lining it up just sucks.. Mine still isn't 100%. They are good and tight but my door doesn't close with out some effort. I sometimes have to lower and then raise the window to get a better seal.. Also, when working on one side make sure the other side window is up. This caused me several frustrating attemps. I would line everything up.. door would close and seal great.. put everything back together and the next day I'll be locking the car at work it wouldn't close right. The inside pressure would cause the window to seat different. I didn't know what was causing the problem so I would take it apart and play again.. Of course it would work great at home cause the other side window was open.. Are we having fun yet!!! :conehead
There are several adjustments, Up/Down stop, Fore/Aft location, In/Out (top of window) and Tilt (clockwise / counter.) I forget the order but you must adjust them in a specific direction because the adjustments change the subsequent adjustments and believe me, you'll end up going in circes otherwise. ;) Been there, done that. :D It takes patience and a lot of fiddling, but it's really pretty straightforward. If you have a convertible adjust with the hardtop in place, otherwise you can really get strange things happening - unless you need to fit to the ragtop. In which case it's possible to install a ragtop so the windows DON'T close properly. If you have repro windowstripping you might need to shim it as the stuff I've seen is smaller than the original stuff. ~Juliet
