The smog pump on my 81 locked up and would not turn when I tried to leave work today. The belt and or pump was squealing like crazy so I just cut off the belt that turns the pump and drove straight home ( 7 miles ). The car seemed to run just fine with no more squealing. Can I drive it like this till I can find a replacement pump without any problems?

It's fine, no need for the pump unless you live in a state where they smog test your cars.
The pump adds air to the exhaust at the header and catalytic converter at certain times, the engine does not run any different with / without it. I took mine off last year, still runs the same, no change in performance or fuel economy.

Agree totally. Lot of people just take belt off and leave pump in place in case they need to attach again. In your case, its frozen. Can get a new one from auto parts store for reasonable price if you truly want it again.
