Temperature Senders
I am installing the temperature senders on my new heads and am wondering why there are two senders on my car. One on the passenger head is for what? The one on the drivers side head is for what? Passenger side has two connections. The one on the driverside has one connection. What gives?
["TCS"; Transmission Controlled Spark. Installed on all engines starting in 1970, It switched in or out the vacuum to the distributor depending on temperature and transmission gear.]
I took this from chevelles.com I hope it helps give an idea of what the system does.

Re: Temperature Senders (Gator81)
Hey guys thanks for the info. There is a plug that is hanging down on the side of the engine bay and I am guessing that this is where this goes. I may try connecting it back up and see how bad it hurts my performance when I get it all back together. Thanks for the the info. :yesnod:
i have the same setup. however, i would think that the rear sender (p) side would give a true reading as to the temp of the engine. just a thought.......the further back on the block, the hotter the engine temp gets..........

Huh - you're kidding, right? Sorry, but I find that reasoning quite funny......
KenSny; the water from th water pump gets pushed into the block, and then it flows to the heads>intake manifold> out the upper radiator hose to the rad.
some of the water "short circuits" and does not go all the way to the rear of the motor before it exits out the upper hose, so the rear of the motor doesn't cool as well
I seriously doubt if there is any measurable difference between the sender mounted on the driver's side head (closer to the front) than the passenger side (closer to the rear). At any rate it would not be enough "worry about" for fan control or gauge readings......
Different story if you are talking about mounting a sensor on the intake manifold vs heads tho....
