I have a 79 l48. I just bought it a week ago and have done some nessary repairs. I noticed today a small toggle switch in the engine compartment. Its on the drivers side near the front of the engine. It looks factory, made into part of the wire harness that runs along the fender wall. Anyone have an idea what its for. I flipped it but nothing happened.
only the previous owner really knows, but some cars had an underhood light that would come on automatically when the hood was raised, could possibly be for that to turn if off if the hood was up for quite a while. but the toggle switch was not oem.

I can't remember if that car had an electric fan or maybe someone added one and a cutoff switch for the fan isn't all that uncommon. Are there any after market electronics or lights or fans, anything like that, that someone might have installed a switch for?
There are no extras and it still has the belt driven fan.

Finally got my brain to work and got my test light out. checked the power to the engine compartment light and flipped that toggle switch. Low and behold the switch turned it on and off.
